Challenge
Energy renovation of the hospital
The Firule Hospital covers an area of 67,000 m2, was built between 1940 and 1986, and has not been extensively renovated since then. Energy renovation included energy measures in almost all parts of the hospital. In addition, it was necessary to replace the complete equipment in the hospital laundry, which had been in operation for more than 30 years. The biggest challenge was to rebuild the hospital while keeping it functioning smoothly. Also, the works had to be finished in a very short time, therefore the coordination of all subcontractors, suppliers and hospital employees had to be precise.

Results
Cost reduction up to 50%
The work on the energy renovation of the hospital lasted only 7 months. Energy consumption before energy renovation was 34,227,000 kWh/year, and after renovation it was 19,000,000 kWh/year, which is a saving of 56%. In addition, water consumption is reduced by 54%, CO2 emissions are 62% lower, and even 10% of energy is produced from renewable energy sources. The costs for energy sources before the renovation amounted to approximately HRK 16,310,000.00 on an annual basis, and after the renovation, they amount to approximately HRK 7,800,000.00. The project itself will last 14 years and the cost of the investment will be returned through savings. There were 150 to 180 workers on the construction site every day, a total of 300 people from more than 30 Croatian companies worked on the project.
