The ceremonial opening of the new water park at Terme Jezerฤica was an exceptionally important event, especially given the unusual circumstances surrounding this continental tourism project.
The presence of Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac at the opening in early August, a time when tourism attention is typically directed towards the coast, underscores the significance of continental tourism in the plans for further tourism development. This presence becomes even more significant considering that continental tourism is now focused as a key priority in achieving year-round tourist traffic, with funds secured from the National Sustainable Development Program.
Another unusual circumstance is the fact that the owner and main investor, Graciano Rudan, who is involved in energy, decided to invest money in Donja Stubica, specifically in the continental region. This demonstrates that continental tourism is increasingly perceived as a valuable investment that can contribute to the development of lesser-known regions.
The expressed satisfaction of officials such as ลฝeljko Kolar, the County Prefect of Krapina-Zagorje County, and Mayor Nikola Gospoฤiฤ of Donja Stubica with the initial wave of investments indicates hope that this investment will enhance the competitiveness and attractiveness of the region and stimulate further tourism development in the continental part of the country.
The first wave of investment in this continental tourism project, amounting to eight million euros, which included a complete refurbishment of the accommodation area, catering facilities, mobile homes, and the first phase of the water park, represents a significant step in the transformation of the Terme Jezerฤica complex.
What sets Terme Jezerฤica apart from other destinations is an innovative concept that differs from typical “pool” destinations. In addition to quality accommodation at a high four-star level, guests can enjoy a real homemade lunch prepared from local fresh ingredients at affordable prices. This approach emphasizes the importance of local culture, food, and hospitality, creating an authentic experience for visitors.
The expansion of investment in Terme Jezerฤica represents a significant step towards the development of continental tourism in Croatia. Rudan’s plan to expand accommodation capacities, extend camping facilities, and build the largest water park on the continent will undoubtedly enrich the region’s tourism offer.
The second part of the investment cycle, expected to be completed by 2027, involves an investment of 66 million euros, bringing the total investment amount to 74 million euros. This will be the largest tourism investment on the continent, demonstrating the significant potential that continental tourism has for growth and development in Croatia.
Additionally, the construction of a 300 kW photovoltaic power plant is planned, which underscores the project’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. This could be crucial in attracting additional funds from the National Sustainable Development Program (NPOO) and other sources of financing.
Minister Brnjac’s presence at the opening demonstrates the Ministry of Tourism’s support for the development of continental and year-round tourism. The new Tourism Law will enable co-financing of further projects, while negotiations with the European Commission for additional funding to develop new facilities and enhance quality in the tourism sector are underway.
This investment cycle in the continental tourism project Termi Jezerฤica will not only enhance the tourism offering of the region but will likely have a positive impact on the economy of the local community, creating new jobs and encouraging other investors to focus on continental tourism in Croatia.
The grand opening of the new water park at Termi Jezerฤica and the commendable investment of 74 million euros in continental tourism have a significant impact on the development of the region and the promotion of tourism beyond traditional coastal destinations. Such investments can stimulate infrastructure development, increase employment, and provide new tourist attractions, attracting visitors from around the world. Additionally, investing in continental tourism can help diversify the country’s tourism offering, providing visitors with diverse experiences and activities, such as hiking and rural tourism.
